GLOBAL GLIMPSE
According to the latest figures released by Dr. David Barrett's Global Evangelization Movement, every minute 163 previously unevangelized people hear the gospel in a form that they can understand and 114...become Christians. In that same minute, 18 people are born, and six non Christians die. This year the global population will increase by about 91 million.

 FROM TURKMENISTAN
Turkmenistan had only a small handful of scattered believers several years ago, but today there are more than 150 with many new baptisms this year. Many of the young believers in this Central Asian republic are persecuted and some have been imprisoned for their faith even though the 4.5 million inhabitants have "official" freedom of religion.

CHAD
Pastor Pierre Guelmby visited 27 villages among five tribal groups, traveling 120 miles on his bicycle. He brought tape players and distributed 430 gospel recordings in their native languages, according to the U.S. Center for world Missions. As a result of this efforts, 40 people became Christians in the Muslim dominated nation.

ETHIOPIA
A tribe in Ethiopia, the Tarra tribe, was not surprised when a missionary first met with the tribe's chief, he was given permission to stay and later given a plot of land to build a church. But the tribe's witch doctors would not let him, and instead began building a temple there. On the day the temple was completed, wind and lightning destroyed it and the witch doctors left. The church then was built, but the burned over plot remains as a reminder of the power of God. About 70 tribe members have become Christians in the past year.

CHINA
A house church reportedly baptized 1,188 new believers in a secret service at a private home recently. Believers arrived after dusk in twos and threes and then left the same way in the early morning hours.

KENYA
Cornerstone Evangelistic Ministry teams in Kenya saw 8000 people come to the Lord during a two week period at the earlier part of this year. The teams employed open air meetings and door to door evangelism. "These are the poorest communities in Kenya, said one worker. Often the believers simply meet under shade trees near the village.

PERU
A young Brazilian named Jesuel went to a town in north Peru where the Catholic Church had been closed for 6 months. He won the sexton to Christ, and they rang the church bells to call the townspeople to worship. More than 100 people made decisions for Christ that day, prompting persecution from traditionalists that forced Jesuel to flee.

CHINA
4,200 independent churches with 1.2 million members operate in China with local government approval. The churches avoid conflict, and can develop relationships with local officials by not identifying with either the official Three-Self chruch, or the illegal house-church, or receiving outside help.

RUSSIA
Some 5,000 Russian Jews made public expressions of faith in Christ during the Messianic Jewish Festival in May 1994. Some 30,000 people attended, sponsored by Hear O Isreal Ministries, and 5,000 non-Jews became Christinas as well.

CHRIST COUNTY
Fugong County, which is in China's Yunnan Province, has so many Christians that it is known as 'Christ County.' According to Lutheran Literatrue Society for the Chinese, 90% of the 70,000 people there-of the Lisu, Nu, and Bai minorities are believers. The Christians report that authorities, impressed by the falling crime rate and other social benefits, are actually encouraging the people to believe. There is a threat, however, sectarian preachers from the outside are bringing division.

CHRISTIAN MATURITY IS THE ABILITY TO MANIFEST THE CHARACTER OF CHRIST WHEN EVERYTHING GOES WRONG. IT IS THE ABILITY TO LOVE IN UNLOVELY SITUATIONS

REVIVAL OR ANARCHY
America is headed for anarchy or revival in five to ten years, reseacher George Barna predicted during a seminar in February. The church hasn't prevented a massive moral and ethical decline in America, he said. He cited:

  1. Majority of people who marry this year will have cohabited with someone before marriage;
  2. One-third of Americans believe it is acceptable for two people to have an affair with each other;
  3. One-half of the people marrying this year believe they will divorce;
  4. 71% of American adults believe there is no such thing as absolute truth, a view shared by 64% of born again Christians and 40% of evangelical Christians.

HOW IS YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE?
A 30 year study of blood pressure demonstrated that chruchgoers have lower blood pressure than non-churchgoers. The difference is up to 5mm, even including smoking and other risk factores in the statistical analysis, according to Dr. Larson.

HAPPY? According to a recent report in PSYCHOLOGICAL SCIENCE, a journal of the American Psychology Society, most people say they are happy. The research builds upon past studies that show people with close relationships and religious faith are happier than those who do not.
